What is a sanitary clamp adapter?

A sanitary clamp adapter is used to create a hygienic and secure connection between a stainless steel tank and the associated piping system. This component may also be referred to as a sanitary clamp flange, sanitary flange/adapter, tank connector, or weld-in flange.

At Leopold Parts, the solution is called a CS-Connector, where CS stands for Clean Seal Connector. It was developed for process plants where hygiene, a precise fit, documentation, and operational reliability are critical.

What is a clamp adapter used for?

A clamp adapter is typically welded into a stainless steel tank and allows the tank to be connected to valves, pipes, or other process components using a clamp connection.

The solution is used, among other things, in:

  • The Food Industry
  • Dairy and Brewery Facilities
  • The Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry
  • Chemical Processing Plants
  • Stainless Steel Tanks and Piping Systems

A properly fitted sanitary flange creates a smooth transition between the connector and the piping system. This reduces edges and pockets where product residue and impurities might otherwise accumulate.

The Difference Between a Standard Tank Connector and a CS Connector

Traditional tank connectors are often manufactured according to a specific standard. If the connector is combined with a clamp or a piping system that follows a different standard, the inside diameters may differ.

This can create a ridge at the transition, which makes cleaning more difficult and increases the risk of product residue buildup.

The CS Connector from Leopold Parts is manufactured in accordance with the relevant ASME, DIN, ISO, and SMS standards. This allows the connector’s inner diameter to be adapted to the selected piping system, ensuring a more precise and hygienic connection.

QuickLeak makes leaks visible

The CS Connector is equipped with QuickLeak detection. An integrated drain hole allows both the top of the clamp and the joint itself to be drained.

If the gasket starts to leak, the fluid may become visible through the drain hole. This makes it easier to detect a leak quickly, before it leads to a shutdown or major repairs.

Sanitary clamp flange with a high pressure rating

While traditional tank connectors are often designed for lower pressures, the CS-Connector is available in pressure class PN16.

This makes the solution suitable for tanks and process plants, where there are higher requirements for pressure resistance, stability, and documentation.

At the same time, the special design helps reduce deformation during welding into the tank. This helps maintain a precise fit and makes subsequent installation easier.

Alternative to the NovAseptic Connector and NAC Connector

Customers looking for a NovAseptic Connector or NAC Connector may, in some installations, require the same basic features: a sanitary tank connection, precise fit, high hygiene standards, and reliable leak detection.

The CS Connector may therefore be a suitable alternative, depending on process requirements, pipe standards, dimensions, and the specific installation.

NovAseptic is a trademark belonging to another manufacturer. Leopold Parts is not affiliated with or authorized by this manufacturer. The comparison describes only the products’ potential areas of application.

Which sanitary flange should you choose?

The choice depends, among other things, on:

  • Piping System Standard
  • Connector Dimensions
  • Tank Design
  • Design Pressure and Temperature
  • Requirements for Materials and Documentation
  • Hygiene and Cleaning Requirements
  • Requirement for EHEDG Certification

Leopold Parts supplies CS connectors in various sizes and standards, including solutions for ASME, DIN, ISO, and SMS piping systems. EHEDG-certified versions are also available for installations with particularly high hygiene requirements.
